National Fossil Day 2025: Fossils at the Ohio Statehouse

October 12–18, 2025 is Earth Science Week, and Wednesday, October 15 is National Fossil Day!

In celebration of National Fossil Day, the Orton Museum is teaming up with the Ohio Division of Natural Resources' Division of Geological Survey to provide free talks and tours about fossils at the Ohio Statehouse. Prof. Loren Babcock will speak about 390-million-year old fossils of the Columbus Limestone, and Mark Peter (ODNR Division of Geological Survey) will lead tours of the fossils on display in the building stones of the Statehouse. 

Talks on October 15 begin at noon and 1:00. The celebration will begin in the Thomas Worthington Center, located on the ground floor of the Ohio Statehouse. Please RSVP at ariana.glaser@ohiostatehouse.org in advance. There are limited spots available.
